Getting Ready
To prep the number puzzles, I printed all of the pages on cardstock and laminated them for durability.
Then, I cut out the puzzles to separate each puzzle in half.
I separated the cards into two piles (number pieces and ten frame pieces) and we were all set to play!
Sunglasses Number Puzzles
The first time through, I played the game with a small group of students at my teacher table so I could easily check for understanding.
Working our way around the table, each student took turns picking a number from the pile.
The first student chose the number eight.
She searched for the correct ten frame to match the number on her sunglass lens.
She carefully counted through a few ten frames until she found the correct one with eight dots and happily slid the pieces together.
We kept going until each child had matched all of their sunglasses together.
Then, I had the students work as a group to put their number puzzles in order from 0-20.
For a quick review, I pulled out our sunny worksheets and the kids matched up the correct sun with the correct ten frame.
It was a great way to check for comprehension and also give kids accountability when the activity was moved to the math center.
